One thing that has really come to my attention lately through several of the prominent individuals on this forum is that many people have focused so heavily on money throughout their lives they have missed the most important part. Health.
I'd like to take a minute to share some basic tips and strategies to get anyone interested started on the right path.
I am very passionate about this (as my profession would show). While I am starting to become a successful entrepreneur with the help of many of you, the one major thing I can give back is how to eat right and how to exercise (effectively and enjoyably!). I have been on the forums quite a bit and since certain events and conversations have happened on this forum I really want to do this. Whether you use this information or other information, do something.
Your life is on the line. Some of us have even experienced loss recently. This thread is meant to get people started or at least keep you on the right path.
Part One: Your metabolism.
This is the thing that turns your food into energy. The faster your metabolism, the more your body burns fuel(and the more it requires). Some of us naturally have fast metabolisms (skinny), and some of us naturally have slow metabolisms (fat).
Our goal is to understand how to improve it. While I have been a nutritionist I want to make this as simple and do-able as possible so I will keep it easy.
The best way to explain metabolism is the rate at how fast you burn calories. This includes calories from fat. The higher our metabolism the faster we burn fat off. Simple.
Attached is metabolism1.bmp. This picture shows the average persons eating habits. They eat little or nothing for breakfast, they have a decent sized lunch, and a huge dinner.
In regards to increasing your metabolism and being healthy, this is COMPLETELY backwards.
Also attached is metabolism2.bmp. This picture shows how you NEED to be eating. You see that you should have a LARGE breakfast (yes, pig out!), a snack (healthy please!), an average lunch, another snack, and little to nothing for dinner!
So STEP ONE TO BEING HEALTHIER IS CHANGE YOUR EATING SCHEDULE! NOW!!!

Part two: Exercise
I'm sorry, there is no way around it. Not if you want to live a long, healthy, happy life. You MUST exercise. This is not a should, this is a MUST, again, YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. It's tough to spend those millions you earned in the fast lane if you are dead! And how the hell am I supposed to get there without your guys' advice?? So if you won't do it for you, or your family, or your friends, do it for me! Please!
Exercise is like making money. It is a PLAN. A consistent plan that is followed upon daily. It doesn't matter what you do really, it matters that you DO something.
I will teach you the simplest way to a healthy body right now: Walking. Walking is probably the mother of exercise. But not taking 5 steps from the coach to the fridge to get another piece of cake! If you can walk at a brisk pace for 30 minutes to an hour a day, you would be amazed at what will happen. 30 minutes to an HOUR!?!? are you serious!?!? Yes... Yes I am... To burn fat and increase your metabolism with exercise the most efficiently you need to do two things:
1. Exercise in your target heart rate.
Forget all the mumbo jumbo. Walk or jog as fast as you can while being able to speak comfortably. This will pretty much ensure that you burn fat and increase your metabolism.
2. Do it as soon as you wake up!
I won't go into all the benefits of doing this when you wake up but if you want the most for the least amount of effort, get up out of bed and go walking or get on the treadmill, whatever. THEN eat your big breakfast. If you did nothing but this, you would be just dandy.

Part Three: What do I eat?
This question always pops up. You know what, almost everything is bad for you. Hate to break it to you. That chocolate cake? yeah. Well duh right? But what most people don't know is that most meat, dairy, and grains are bad for you... really? What else is there to eat? Veggies. Yeah I said it. Am I saying become a vegetarian? Hell no, I love steak too much. But you also need to take in the stuff that is good for you. GREEN VEGETABLES. If you really were to eat the 5-8 servings of green vegetables you are supposed to a day you would probably not have to read this. Now many of you I'm sure are far better cooks than I could EVER be, so I'm sure you can figure out what to do. Let's just put it along these lines:
Best meats(in order):
1) Fish
2) Turkey
3) Chicken
4) Red meats.
Fish is the best for you. Eat it.
Best breads:
Whole Grain + Whole wheat (together, not either or. Both)
Best snacks:
Nuts, fruits, veggies.
I wanted to keep this even shorter than I already have, maybe I can give you an example of what to eat on an average day:
Breakfast: Pancakes, Waffles, Cereal, Toast, Bagels (peanut butter and lite cream cheese are great here). Eggs, protein milk shake. Lots of food here. Imagine what you eat for dinner now and make it breakfast food!
Snack 1: Nuts, Fruits, Veggies
Lunch: Salads, Sandwhich (Subway? Sure.)
Snack 2: Nuts, Fruits, Veggies
Dinner: Small sandwhich, maybe some fish, whatever. BUT: make sure it's a very small meal!
You should go to bed almost feeling hungry (not because you starved yourself all day, but because your metabolism needs to re-adjust).
And for my sake cut down on the beer!
