In one of my favorite books, Build a Business, Not a Job, as well as some of their videos, Maui Mastermind illustrates what are called the "process layer" and the "format layer" in your business. The "process layer" is the actual system or automated process/procedure you create for your business as well as the controls that complements it. The "format layer" is the documentation (checklists, training videos, flowcharts, employee manuals, tutorials with screenshots, etc.) that actually illustrate what your system is. The format(s) you choose make a tremendous difference in whether your business can be fastlane or not. Good systems with poor formats can still keep you married to your business.
What types of formats do you use, if you have them?
I'm at a point in my business where I am still developing systems/procedures/controls, but am prepared to execute my format(s). I am really very partial to flowcharts, videos, and tutorials with screenshots to direct either in-house or outsourced professionals to.
