Hey everybody!
I'm NewbieXtra, and The Millionaire Fastlane book has caused a major meltdown! It has truly given me much to think about. Right now, I'm totally antsy and excited to get started, but at the same time overwhelmed and afraid that I'll fail big time, and be stuck living the life of a slowlaner.
I've currently been living the hybrid life of a slowlaner and a sidewalker. I'm in debt and I have no job aka the sidewalk. However, I don't buy on credit as in if I don't have the money for it right now, I don't buy it, and I do have some savings that is being eaten up by my debt, but I do have it. And I know I'm going to need to get a job to pay off my debt.
I'm actually not interested in clothes or cars. What I want is to be able to have the freedom and get up and just GO. I want to be able to live in a foreign country (Germany, Japan, Singapore) for a number of years to learn the language and its people, then go and do it again in another country, then another country, and another country.
Also, I want to be to have the time to learn about new things, and to be able to afford all of the books necessary to learn about the subject. I want to be able to just buy books without having to consider whether I can afford them or not because there are so many things I want to read and learn about!
I want to be able to actually stay at home and raise my future children. To be able to develop strong family bonds between my children, my husband, and myself.
Basically, I want the time, freedom, and health the fastlane promises in 10 or maybe even 20 years, instead of 30+ in the slowlane.
I'm not really sure how or what my fastlane business is. I've had a few ideas, but they've all been axed because I haven't actually done it myself. For example, I thought about creating a business to help people learn a foreign language. The problem is I haven't actually learned a foreign language. Now, I totally know how to do it in theory, but in practice ... nope.
Another idea I have is to create a brainstorming tool. The problem is I have no programming skills and don't know how to create software. I like this idea, but how should I go about it?
Should I get a "degree" in computer science, or should I just go for figuring it all out as problems come?
By getting a degree, I don't mean literally signing up for courses but rather following along a college's syllabus for computer science, buying books online that cover each topic/course subject. With this approach, I'll develop a solid understanding and skills, but it will take me years to complete it. And then, I still have to work on actually building my own software.
The other method would be to just start working on the program, and figure out how to do it all as each idea or problem comes up. With this approach, I'll actually be working on my idea; however, there's a higher likelihood that my software will look and be amateurish because it will be a hodgepodge of everything I learned, right and wrong, along the way.
Okay, this is turning into a novel, so I'll stop here!
