If you procrastinate daily, don't have an idea yet, and really have no idea of which direction you want to go in, this is for you. Read this thread, then apply it instantly, and I guarantee you'll get results.
I used to sit around daily, perhaps browsing this forum, goofing off and doing nothing productive. Everything I done was "last-minute" - literally 20 minutes before my deadline I'd be working like a madman, doing scrappy work.
It all changed with @IceCreamKid's thread. I need to echo this: learn copywriting. Since leaving school I've learnt no skills, but for the past 4 months I've woken up every day and for the first hour all I do is study copy. There's a long way to go, but it's a lifetime vocation. Never stop learning copy.
But that was all I'd been doing... until today.
Listening to Billy Murphy's Forever Jobless podcast, he suggested we set deadlines. Deadlines = dollars. Give it a go. In fact, I added something to it I'd read elsewhere on this forum: accountability. I believe Vigilante and zend***phin are currently running a thread about it.
Look, it's this simple, and it's something you can use forever, every single day of your life - I will.
Set your deadline. Think of your goal, think of a task, anything. Forget to-do lists, project planners, and so on - waste of time (at least for me, and if you're reading this then it's likely they are for you too).
Set one simple task, with one simple deadline. Have you got muchos ideas bouncing around in that vast expanse of space you call a brain, but not sure which one will guarantee you a million dollas? Set a deadline to pick one by the end of this week at a specific time - let's say Friday at 4pm.
Then, create a consequence for yourself. Go "all in" (thanks MJ). Make it something you'd really hate to do - perhaps write a check to a person you despise for $100. It works (thanks zend***phin, Vigilante).
But then, add a reward. Completed your task by the deadline? Go grab a drink and watch the game, or whatever you like - the point is, make it something you'd love to do.
The benefits of achieving your task by your deadline are then two-fold - you avoid the pain and get the pleasure.
Failed to hit your deadline? Tough. Post the check, wave bye-bye to your money and feel the pain.
Commit to the deadline 100%. If you do this, I promise you... procrastination will be the least of your problems.
It just works.
