Have you ever been traveling to another state or another country and you run into someone that is from your state or town? Don't you immediately feel a bond with that person?
It's weird how this works because if you went to your local grocery store in your town and someone said they from your town it wouldn't matter but when you're in a foreign place it changes everything.
So here's a technique I use to help create this same type of local connection over the internet. I have to give credit where credit is due. I learned this from a guy named Dan Raine at Get The Immediate Edge. Now their twist was slightly different because the tool they used to accomplish this was tied to having a subscription to their site. I discovered that you can accomplish the same result for free thanks to Google.
Ever notice that when you go to Google and you type in plumber for example it shows you plumbers in your local area. The way Google accomplishes this is by looking at your internet connection IP to see where it is located.
OK Norm this is all real interesting but how do I take advantage of this?
So here's how it works and how you can do it on your site - let's say for example you sell a guide to growing tomatoes. What if you did a search for growing bigger tomatoes and you clicked on one of the results and the headline said:
Guaranteed Bigger Tomatoes in Houston or Your Money Back
The instant you see Houston you feel an immediate connection to it just like the stranger in a foreign country. So let's say the IP is wrong and it says Dallas instead, Dallas is in the same state so I still feel more of a connection than guides that don't say my state at all, the info seems more relevant.
So How the Heck Can I Make This Happen
There's a tiny little piece code you install on your site that grabs the geo-location info from Google and dynamically inserts it into the sentence.
You can find a working example of the script, the code and how to use it here Free Geo Location Script – Greet Your Visitors By Their City*|*Gary McCaffrey – Internet Marketing
Hope this info was helpful. :smx9:
