16 years old, wantrepreneur. That's where it began, I was filled with an overwhelming discontent with the slowlane roadmap that was being thrust into my hands. My teachers telling me if I applied myself I could turn those B's into A's and get into a good university and make X amount of money more than if I didn't go to university in my lifetime and I could even be a millionaire at 65 with safe investments and compound interest! Maybe I could live like a king when I am on my deathbed after living a stressful, dull life so I could die in luxurious misery! No thanks.
I even remember a teacher asking me "Do you want to die poor or die with money in the bank?" I was 16! I wasn't thinking about dying, I was thinking about living.
I didn't know exactly why at the time, but it felt so wrong that I needed to do something, so I said screw it and left sixth form (high school).
A year of MLM schemes, playing xbox and smoking weed, turns out I just traded slowlane for sidewalk. A year of being terrified of the idea that I wasn't going to get anywhere in life, I wanted the security of a 9-5.
The next year I gave in, I got a crappy retail job and survived, I was a complete idiot and spent all my monthly pay every month within 2 weeks at the most and 2 days at the least.
But this weird thing happened, after working 16 days straight, 10 hours a day I realised "What the **** am I doing!" That next month I spent all my disposable income again and within 20 minutes, but this time it was on amazon. Dozens of books, Think and Grow Rich, The Millionaire Fastlane , Machiavelli's Prince, Mastery, The 48 laws of power ect.... I studied harder than I ever had in school, I gained confidence and started what could have been a fastlane endeavour, my first blog.
It wasn't, I had no idea what I was doing but after 6 months it failed and I wasn't disheartened in the slightest, I tried again, new site, learnt from the best bloggers out there after spending days studying the sites that were leaders in the field I was working in. And it failed.
My first foray into real business failed because all I really cared about was ME wanting to make money.
The second? Because I was focusing so hard on everyone else that I didn't realise I was just copying a hundred other sites, while still doing so for selfish reasons.
6 months passed, over the course of which I changed my mindset completely, I won't lie I still want to be rich, but not for the same reasons, I want to make an impact on the world, I want to look after my family and I want to own a business that is TRULY helping people, a business that will make me wealthy yes, but first and foremost a business that will change people's lives for the better, one where people will be amazed at the level of customer service and a company that will inspire loyalty from its customers and its employees.
Before I can do this, I need to get my life in order. I need to move out of my parents house, I need to be a better son, better big brother, better boyfriend and better man because when I am on my deathbed I know it won't be the figures in my bank that I care about but the figures standing around my bed.
My plan? it isn't complicated, its simple but not easy.
Odesk Copywriting (currently learning the ins and outs and taking action here, advice appreciated) to gain an income of £2500pcm. (though right now I'm focusing on making my first £10, then the first £100 and so on, can't make £2500pcm if I can't make £100pcm right?)
New Blog - Invest time, effort and money into a site that will succeed, one that fills a need and actually helps people. Eventually sell once business is stable and I have ensured (as much as is possible) that the company will continue to offer the same level of service.
My reason for this post? I want to learn and apply the knowledge of pre-existing fastlaners, please hold nothing back, what do you wish someone had told you at the start of it all? I'm open to criticism and be as harsh as you need to be to get your point across. Literally anything you think should be said.
Since this is my first post I'd like to thank MJ for writing the Millionaire Fastlane and all the dozens of people on this forum who have helped me with their various posts (Vigilante, SinisterLex and JackEdwards are three notable members who have written invaluable posts, thanks!)
