Here is something that works for me and just might change your life...
For many years, I had days that I struggled to get motivated, I felt down, and just couldn't get anything done (everyone gets days like this). Coincidently, those happened to also be my least productive days.
I found myself endlessly browsing and looking for external motivation in the form of youtube videos, articles, and music. But most of this stuff was just a temporary boost and a distraction from doing real work.
One day, I accidently ran across a study. Little did I know, one word inside that story would change my life.
That word was Gratitude and that's what the study was based on.
Bear with me for a second...
After finding the study and being a skeptic myself I decided to dig in and find more information.
I kept reading and seeing scientific evidence of the power of gratitude.
According to many of the studies, it is impossible to feel sad, angry, uninspired...(feel in the blank) and grateful at the same time. I'll leave the specifics for you to research since I have a feeling you'll get move value that way.
Anyways...
I've always been a positive and grateful person but never made it a daily practice.
So I decided to make it a habit to be grateful, just to try it out.
I began by starting every single morning with a 20 - 30-minute meditation session. I followed this with 20 - 30 minutes of sitting in silence thinking/writing as many things as I could think of that I was grateful for...
At night, before went to sleep I also wrote down 20 things I was grateful for in that day.
The first few days I hit and miss some days, but eventually, I got it rolling.
I can't explain it but after a while, my brain started seeing things from a different sight.
It's at the points that many times I feel grateful when I'm feeling down or run into a problem. I've noticed that problems/frustrations can launch us into changing something we were too comfortable to change before.
Now when I'm feeling funky (will happen to everyone) I stop everything I'm doing and I go for a walk. During the walk, I will force my brain to think of all the things I am grateful for.
Try this out for a month, you got nothing to lose. I promise you, after a while of this practice you won't need any motivational websites or videos. You will find that within you.
Best of luck to you and let me know how it goes
Ps. I'm not a spiritual, hippy, new age person (not that there is anything wrong with that) but this really has made a huge difference in my life.
