As you are already aware, time is your most valuable resource. You only have a limited amount and once it's up they toss you in the ground. That's why this community is so great. Everyone here understands this and is aiming to get the most they can from their one life.
I found a tool called Carpe Diem that gives a visual representation of just how much time you have left on this Earth. Of course no one knows exactly when they will die, so the graph is simply based on average life expectancy.
Here is the link http://theblog.de/projects/carpediem/ (couldn't figure out how to make a link that wasn't just the address)
Fill in your birthday information and whether you are a man or a woman. Doing so should pull up a graph with the gray being time you've already lived, and the black being your approximated time left.
Next, under Timewasters, check the sleep and work boxes, then click the weeks button. This will show a new graph with blue being time spent working and sleeping, and black being "your" time. The graph you are looking at is your life in the Slowlane. Take a minute to really absorb how much of your life is spent sleeping and working. Adding time to get ready for work, and commuting, you could probably add another 10-20% more to the blue.
Now, uncheck the work box, click weeks, and examine "your" time in the Fastlane. Doesn't that look so much better? All that time you could spend sitting in an office, or doing whatever job it is, you could instead be spending living your life to the fullest.
It's hard to comprehend just how little time we have on this planet. Sometimes all we need is a wake-up call. I hope this visual representation has been a wake-up call for some. I know it definitely helps reinforce to me that I am making the right decisions.
Go build your business. Fulfill your dreams. Don't let your graph fill up with blue circles.
