Hi guys, my name is John. I'm 27 today! LOOOOOOOONG time lurker but it's time to get down to business.
I've have had small success with affiliate marking in the past, a failed eCommerce site and now I'm ready to tackle my next project.
First I want to say, that my eCommerce site was sort of a test. I really hate to refer to it as failed and I like to think more of it as a learning experience. I learned a ridiculous amount about running and launching a website, a little about writing copy, tried payed advertising via Facebook, growing social media and everything else in between. I had over 500 followers on Instagram in about 2 weeks, which isn't hard to do via Followliker, but my engagement was good. I honestly think that it could have been profitable, I had a pretty unique angle that had virtually no competition and a plan to add different items but I wasn't really serious about. I ran this site for about a month then I shut it down.
Here's why:
There was nothing special about my website that someone couldn't copy and do for themselves. This really bugged me, and seeing as how I was using the drop ship model, there was too much control that was completely out of my hands.
I also tried for a long time to find a product to buy in China and sell in the U.S, but I failed to find value in something when 100 people are selling the exact same thing. I wanted to add value, not just buy low sell high. I wanted to create something that was unique, that added surprise to peoples lives, and that companies would give me their product as a form of advertising.
I find the more that I train myself to find these opportunities, the easier I can spot them. Infact, I think that I've found an excellent need for a website while asking questions about my own start up.
I'm an Apprentice in the construction industry fabricating oilfield equipment and where I live (Alberta), the economy here had taken a hit, and I've been layed off for about 5 months, so now is the perfect time to forge my own path.
I'm going to be starting a box subscription service.
I've found a really interesting niche that seems ripe for the picking, and I see huge opportunity to dominate this market. I'm going to be making a progress thread so hopefully some people can follow along, and unlike a large percent, I'm going to update it until the end, good or bad, success or failure. I literally having nothing but time to throw into this, so there should be absolutely no excuses on my end.
I've contacted a few manufacturers yesterday and 2 of 3 have gotten back to me, one owner phoned me today and said that he absolutely loved my idea and wanted to work closer with me. He gave me some pretty valuable information regarding the products, what sells, ideas for my demographic, seems like a pretty solid guy. He even offered me custom branding at no charge, but I am MILES away from even considering a name. I need to crunch numbers and plan this out. I hope to launch within a month.
Anyways sorry for the long intro, I look forward to becoming a member of this community and meeting everyone here
