Hi there!

Hopefully this will be the first of many posts and a good reference point for me year on year.

Growing up I loved "building things" so as soon as I was old enough to leave school I left and got a job as an Apprentice Carpenter working for a high end home builder. I loved the training, the progression, setting myself goals and seeing the end result of your labour.
After I became fully qualified I decided I would try my hand at some real estate development. After around 2 years searching an opportunity presented itself for a large project, I grabbed my chance and put every bit of energy and time I had into it. The project was a success and has given me a financial cushion, not a huge amount but I have no debt and a decent level of savings for my age. The lessons I learnt and confidence I gained on this project were probably more valuable than the money I made.

I am back working full time in construction but no longer enjoying it. It's a tough, draining lifestyle which leaves little time for socialising or hobbies.
Earlier this year I really started reading business and self development books before reading The Millionaire Fastlane a month ago which led me to start reading through the threads on this forum. It completely changed my mindset and has motivated me to go "all in" in 2018. Thanks @MJ DeMarco

I have decided to take a year out of work and put a percentage of my savings in an account and view it like my personal education and development fund. I have no debt, no ties and have cheap living arrangements for the first few months.
I plan to start the year with some online coding courses before starting an online business. My time as an apprentice showed me that reading books is no substitute for learning on the job and from your own mistakes. I am really excited to see the effects such a big change in direction will have a year from now.

The path I have decided to take is @Fox making money with web design. That thread has all the knowledge I need to get started. I have also joined the Facebook group and hope to contribute in the new year.
I like to think I have an eye for design, I enjoy the creative process of building something and like Fox, I also know how blue collar business owners think so will use that to my advantage.
Most importantly this path will be excellent for developing a skillset of sales, communication, networking, marketing and copywriting. While I aim to be profitable as soon as possible this year, I value developing a business skillset, mindset, network and good daily habits the most.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this forum, reading about the inspirational success stories and members personal progression has stopped me asking myself "can I afford to do this" and start asking "can I afford not to?".

Thanks for reading.
