Couldn't find this thread so I made it. I'm hoping experienced members' posts here will remain to help others who encounter my situation.
Some background: There's opinions about idea/execution being everything, the loss of work/life balance, and no major successful startup changing too much from its inception. Not my immediate concern...however, there's some interesting debate over in juan917's idea thread.
Today on Snapchat I chanced upon an article which I actually read! (Once I recognized the author from an older piece relevant to my business.) Then I found SinisterLex's musical.ly thread on this forum about the same app. This article said that they had successfully pivoted. Googling bought up GaryVee's call on it. So the scale, control and need commandments are all working for them, it's potentially huge.
Now to my situation.
I had one simple (but big) idea. Then I "pivoted" it by narrowing the focus into my current industry, to which I already devote all my time and resources. Concentrated effort should see this grow locally, and the maths shows I could help about 20,000 people find work with the 20% of the national population using our service. That's assuming an eventual monopoly.
Of course I believe my developer can deliver a remarkable app that adds enough value to spread itself. My advisor has suggested gaining endorsements in addition to networking with the other providers in my area for the MVP/beta release. So again by chance, an expert networker appeared locally.
Networking isn't my forte, and although I'm definitely developing it, I have some quick questions. The articles I've mentioned have brought up some doubts about my ability to ensure the success of this first, and afterwards my original, solution to a problem I personally have. Anyone who would like to help me and others with their experience will surely get good karma and some rep

- Is bootstrapping and testing by myself, as an ideal user, better during the MVP stage?
- This local influencer also has funding contacts. Would finding investors too early hurt later?
- Which path would more likely help if pivoting back to the global, bigger application of my platform?
