So I am licking my wounds from my first big entrepreneurial failure. Small in dollars, but I used every resource I had. Failed due to lack of experience and because I was not ready to do what it takes to succeed.
I am basically broke and in a small amount of debt. I have been based in Seattle, living out of a small 500 sq/ft shop and splitting my time in Anacortes about and hour and a half North where my son and godson are.
My choices are as follows:
Take a job in Woodland, CA with a friend of the family who owns a nut products production and wholesaling business, or stay in Northern Washington and do what I would do in CA, that is, spend all my free time researching and turning my failure into a proportionately greater success.
I will use the decision matrix that MJ created, which I used once before and really appreciated, but I would like some outside suggestions from people here as well.
Big factors are:
In CA, I will be away from my boys (con).
In CA, I will have an opportunity to stay busy and focus on strengthening principals that I believe in, but did not put into practice while trying to build my business the last few years - basically an opportunity to learn from my mistakes (pro).
In CA, I will not be making much money and will be somewhat isolated, this will be hard, but will allow me to focus on focusing completely on learning and refocusing (rural area outside of Sacramento-pro/con).
In CA, I will have more time to be focused and spend my time, while not working on
In WA, I will be near my beloved boys (pro).
In WA, I will be limited in time and resources, but near Seattle, where I have some limited connections (pro/con).
In WA, I will be staying at my boy's mother's house (I care about her greatly, but we are not romantically involved, but we are both committed to raising the boys as a team - more con than pro, I believe).
In WA I have a small spark that is generating very limited income and exposure for my business in a side capacity (small pro).
These are just a summary of the factors I am considering. These are some of the major factors on my mind at this juncture. I also have an offer (by the family that owns the business) to fly down there and check out the opportunity up close.
My goals are to 1. refocus my business. 2. learn web design as well as web marketing and SEO. 3. re-invent and re-launch my business having learned from my initial failure.
Thanks all:smxB:,
