For those that are selling products what has been your your experience with exhibiting at trade shows?

For the last two years we have been exhibiting at a couple of shows a year. These have been mostly smaller shows within a decent driving distance from our location. We have always done well at the shows and have been able to sell enough product to cover our expenses. One unexpected benefit has been networking with other businesses that are also exhibiting. We have forged partnerships with other companies that have led to cross promotions, social media shares, etc.

Well this year we are stepping up our game. We will be exhibiting at two of the largest shows in our industry. The first one is in Chicago and we will be selling B2C. The second one is in Denver and we will be selling B2B.

These are huge shows with thousands of people attending and hundreds of companies exhibiting. These "pipe and drape" shows require you to bring everything. You have to bring all of your tables, chairs, displays and even your own flooring. The expenses can get rather large with travel, booth rental, displays, etc. We are also wondering if just the two of us will be enough to man the booth? Should we bring a third or even fourth person? We are hoping that these shows really pay off via sales and further building of our brand.

Anyway, what has been everyone else's experience? I know there have been a few on here that have done trade shows but I haven't seen too much discussion about it. We are looking forward to moving up to the big leagues and hope it pays off!
