Trading is the one of the most basic forms of business around... What do you think of simply wheeling and dealing for startup capital to start a more significant operation?
For example you call up manufacturers (domestic or international) and talk about how you can increase their sales. You take advice on what kinds of buyers they usually look for. You then go out and find these buyers and take perhaps a 5% markup on the suppliers' products as an intermediary (yes, practically dropshipping, but B2B rather than B2C/online). I suppose with working capital you could also take hold of the inventory.
It seems like an initially low-capital, high-hustle type of business with the potential to create maybe even a million or more over a few years, with enough commitment and a large transaction volume. Interested to hear your thoughts. Unlike more consumer-oriented deals this would require trying to jump into the big leagues of buyers...
I was considering doing this initially with commodities, like these huge trading houses such as Glencore do, but I thought physical trading would be far too competitive with these guys around. Working with real products seems like a more realistic option.
