Not getting religious here, but in the Bible you can see the line saying "Truth shall set you free" (freely quoted by me).
In the book "The Da Vinci Method" on page 181 and forward you can read about the importance of being Truthful to yourself and others. The chapter that starts on page 181 brings up a (fictional I suppose) story about a buisness Director. A "hot-shot". He uses all kinds of tricks to decept and wrestle control over people to gain his objectives, but it has done him more harm than good. Not least spiritually. He drinks a lot, he over-eats when pressured, he has compulsive sex habits and other problems related to this behaviour of his. Everything, as the chapter mentions, has a common denominator: Guilt.
Guilt stems from being untruthful in what you do. You lie to people, you fabricate stuff and lie mostly to yourself. This builds up an inner pressure to always keep in line with that "fake" image of yourself. This leads to you straying away from who you really are: That peaceful person who loves his/her life. No matter the networth you have accumulated and no matter if you live in a shabby car or in a nice big home.
Don't go on to a path that leads to you selling your soul. You can all make money and still respect yourself and feel genuinly good about yourselfs.
I mentioned another book previously called "Busting loose from the money game". Chapter 13 in that book brings up the same subject (my view). The author in "Busting loose from the money game" tell you to go "head on" with things that you fear and hence win a more true identity in return. It may be very scary and even dangerous, but you will gain self-respect that will give you more power to change your life and also others.
In the "The Da Vinci Method" chapter (at page 181 and forward) the Director just decides to stop pretending and just tell the Truth, no matter if that would lead to a "career Game Over" or anything else that would be very horrible to face (jail time or whatever). He went ahead and did it (with both bad and good consequences as a result). It leads to a more loving and fullfilled life for him and I would think anyone doing this in his everyday life would agree to it's truthfulness and power.
