Hi Everyone,
This is DEFINITELY NOT an encouragement to get involved in any formal education!
I'm starting a degree next month. I want to share my reasons for doing so for any current students having doubts.
I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT intend to end up in the slowlane when I finish. Why did I make this decision?
* To free up time - THE MOST IMPORTANT CURRENCY. No more weekend work, no more 40 minute walks to and from work each day, no more 45 hours a week at a desk with no down time to do anything important. Instead - 13 hours of classes per week plus independent study time. No commuting.
A friend of mine that did the same course said, "You'll have more spare time than you know what to do with". Not sure if I believe him. I'm not presuming it won't be hard work but this brings me to the next point...
*Control over how I organise my time.
*Networking - Making as many useful contacts as possible. This could help with any future business opportunities whether related to that industry, or if not related, their skills are always needed.
*MY SANITY! Haha. I've been living a narrow life. As we know, ideas come from engaging in life.
*Useful skills - I am studying something that has potential to generate many ideas. The contacts I make can help provide the resources to explore these ideas.
*Wealth trinity - Family/relationships, health, freedom.
My relationships will improve. My health will improve. I am healthy thankfully but I don't like how the stress has increased over time since I've been working full time. The type of stress when you're working towards something meaningful is completely different and I don't mind it.
During this time I will explore opportunities and maybe a fastlane idea will emerge.
WORST-CASE SCENARIO: I come out of uni with 4 years experience selling on Ebay and if it goes well, profit. I may have to get a job for a bit. At least it will be one where I can use my brain a bit more than now and will be paid more. Maybe look into contract work. I wouldn't mind earning £400 per day for 3-6 months with 3 months off in between. Not ideal but a faster slowlane than the slowlane I'm in now. A short term solution to make room to create a fastlane business if I haven't already done so by then.
I had more reasons in my head when I decided this morning I'd post about this. I know many people have created a fastlane business around a full time job. I put a lot of thought into this decision and there's no going back so please no replies telling me I'm wasting my time because that's no use now. I was at a point where I had to get out of my situation and waiting until I had a big idea wasn't good enough.
Hopefully this is of some use to someone.
Cheers
