Searched and read through some threads on the site about it, and am getting the impression that vBulletin is everyone's preferred forum provider. Posting on vBulletin about it... what's your opinion?
I am setting up an online site for transaction / account management and am looking to setup a forum for it as well. My brother runs a vBulletin site and a lot of the work on this project is right up his alley, so I've partnered with him to take over that part. There's just one problem... He doesn't want to use vBulletin! He wants to either go the IPS (Invision Power Services) or another free forum provider route. His #1 option was for me to just develop a php forum from scratch... in which I told him "bro, I'm developing a service, not forum software, focus!"
I think the majority of online users have joined a vBulletin forum and are familiar with how it works. It's like logging onto a Windows computer and being familiar with it's functionality. I like IPS but I've never used a forum before that used it. I also don't want to get a free platform where the Windows user expects Windows... and up pops Windows Metro and there's no start button.
I'm down for vBulletin 5.0 and installing 4.x until the 5.0 quirks are worked out.
Since I'm on the vBulletin side... is there anybody that can play devil's advocate who would support another option? If not, what is your support for vB? Is it the same as mine? And what would you like to use if you were a user looking for a support community?
Thanks guys!
