I bought the ebook and audio version from Amazon and listened to it over the past 5 days while traveling to visit my 82 year old mom in Alabama. It's a long trip from Colorado and it's very quiet once I get there, so I needed something to keep me busy. The Millionaire Fastlane book completely blew me away. For years I've thought there was something wrong with me that I just didn't believe in the work 40 years until you retire concept, which has been drilled into my head my whole life, but this book validated so many things I have always believed but thought weren't realistic.
I am 45 years old, make what many would consider to be a good annual salary, and have had a pretty successful career as a programmer/project manager, but I've never really loved what I do. I have been very aware for years how others are getting rich at the expense of my time. I work hard and am good at what I do and therefore employers love to have me around, but as has happened a couple times previously in my career I have again now gotten to the point of complete dissatisfaction with my job. In the past in this situation I have taken another job, which can be great for a while but in the end I always come back to the fact that it's a job and I have no freedom. Now as I've gotten to the same career crossroad after 11 years at my current job, I know I need to do something different. My first instinct has been to pursue other jobs, but after researching companies and opportunities for a couple months it's become increasingly obvious to me that another job would wear thin quite quickly.
So the timing of finding this book is perfect (well, almost perfect-would have been great information to know 20 years ago
). At 45 I'm likely older than most users on this forum, but I have a dream to have financial freedom by the time I am 50. I don't have grand dreams of a Lamborghini or massive house, just the freedom to not keep a job I don't like and do what I want. I look forward to interacting with many of you on this forum.
