Okay, well to start myself on the path to wealth I have to get my ecommerce business up-and-running, but I have a few questions that seem to be a dilemma:
1) I live in Upstate, NY right now with mom, which I do not like (too cold and gloomy) and also one of the worst states in the nation business tax-wise and business-friendliness-wise. New York has a large problem right now with many businesses leaving the state and are trying to address this problem, that shows how harsh they are.
Also, I do not want to remain living with a parent! I do work of course, but not making enough $$$ right now to live on my own. My sister tried this and just couldn't afford the place, she had to move in with a friend.
So I am planning to have my business be in a business-friendly state like Texas or Nevada (also much sunnier and warmer!).
The thing is, I don't want to just move out there and start the business and have it fail, that could put me up the creek without a paddle (though I imagine I could save up enough to live off of if this happened for some months to find enough work). I would prefer to start it here in NY and get it successful, the move it out to a different state, but the thing is, CAN one do this?
I don't know if one can just build up a good ecommerce business with a lot of inventory in one state, then move it across the country to somewhere else, can you? Customers I imagine wouldn't like that.
Also, in building the website, I have to make sure the search engines optimize it, but to do this, I have to put the website up. However, if I do this, people will think the business is operating when it wouldn't be, I would just be testing the website to make sure the search engines can find it. How can I put up the website and make sure the search engines can find it while at the same time letting people know the business "isn't in business" just yet...? Do I just put up a big notice or something?
I feel like I'm inbetween two mountains, I can move then try to get the business working but this might be a bad thing, or I can work to get it going here, but I don't know if I can then move the business cross-country.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone know if an ecommerce business can be moved across the country?
All advice appreciated, thanks!
