Watch me add value to these pieces of furniture

I went to my friends house tonight. He lives in the country, and his cousin wanted to burn the furniture from his college dorm because he just graduated.


I started looking at some of the pieces of furniture - pieces that were sturdy and looked relatively old and worn - but also were made with what I thought was some charming woodwork. My love of beautiful things took over, and I got my friend to help haul them up to his garage. I ended up with four three pieces of furniture, and I decided I was going to refinish and stain them at my dads woodshop. I have no desire to keep them, but I'm certain someone would want them.

I'm hoping to get three things out of this experience:

1. Well...experience. I have stained wood before, but I want to know how to refinish previously stained wooden furniture. There are a couple of pieces of furniture that I own which are family heirlooms and they need some love. This is going to give me the chance to learn the skill of refinishing, but I can do it on pieces of furniture that I'm not super attached to.

2. I want to greatly profit from these pieces. If I can work diligently on them to make them look spectacular, then I can increase their value and sell them.

3. Lastly, and most importantly, I can help someone else by giving them a valuable piece of furniture. Perhaps someone will buy it and still own it for a long time. What if they keep it for their grandchildren? The mere thought of that fills me with joy, and it comes from me making the simple decision to not burn this furniture.

I took some photos of the furniture, but it was so dark out that the pictures didn't look very good. I'll take some better photos later this week when I go to retrieve them from my friends house.

Where are the photos of the pieces you are going to restore? All I see is a bonfire of the unwanted ones.

I have a few photos of the furniture, but they are really bad because it was dark outside. I wish I would have taken better ones either closer to the fire where you could see them or when we moved them up to the garage.

I’ll snap some photos of them tonight when I pick them up. I'm already planning on working on them this week.
