Publishers would make more money by being payed directly from the customer and the advertiser would receive many more impressions with every visitor to a moderately popular site seeing the advertisement everytime. Not just when a keyword is typed in. The down side ofcourse is the added time it will take to organize your advertisements and in the world of the internet everyone expects enormous amounts of visitors for a few dollars but there are those that understand you get what you pay for and those are the people that are gonna be willing to spend money in order to get not only quality traffic but improved search engine rank by having the high quality link.
