One of the biggest obstacles of any e-biz owner is really themselves. This business is lucrative, somewhat easy in terms of actual physical labor and plains out makes money.
Ive been building websites for about a solid 5 years now. At first it was very easy i created one site and after one month i was raking in 3500 doing nothing so i spent most of my time not building my business and playing poker.
I never reinvested into my business or created additional web properties thus when my site got hacked and i didnt have a backup i lost everything as well as the revenue with it.
As many webmasters i have some sorta ADHD / Bipolar disease where i just from web project to web project and in the end i have like 40 domains and like 15 websites all mediocre. Does this sound familar? Most webdesigners are like this.
So what did i do? I sold 75% of my domains and almost 80% of my websites. I do have one or two more to sell but im still debating since they are such awesome niches. But anyhow it involved losing alot of money invested, sacrifices, and big decisions of the direction my company is going to take.
So i did it... i finally gathered up the courage and did it. Admitting to failure and my own faults was a very difficult thing to do.

So wheres the new webmaster advice?
The old days of building small sites endless content sites is over. If you want to make money online you not only need to choose a niche you need to dominate a niche.
Yes im sure you heard that before but let me give you a real life example of what i mean
When you build a site and choose a domain name you need to be sure in the future it has room to expand. The time you spend going from one site to another is priceless in terms of how much you save in the long haul.
Lets say you wanted to build a site on learning how to play a guitar ( 10 pages at the most. Rather than buying a domain like learnguitar.com and slapping a quick 10 site page together for measly dollars try this.
Build it into a brand...
GuiltarLand.com...
So now you get this 10 page site up about learning the guitar. 2 months later you made an extra 50 bucks and you decide you want to add guitar reviews. Another two months pass and you make 100 bucks so you add a guitar video section...
You can go on and on .... add forums , add guitar tabs, add band classifieds, add music news, and music artits information by then your content will make more content with user interaction.
So notice how you built a KISS method site but the scalability was endless.
Now the revenue part. Why was this niche chosen? Guess what? new guitar players need to usually buy guitars to learn.
So my advice is the next site you build or put your heart into needs one to sell a product or service and have endless scalability.
In the end that allows you to build a site that dominates a market and drives the traffic to selling a product.
A funnel to affiliate commission and revenue.
