I know, I know, conversion rate will depend on the traffic and the audience. It's going to vary wildly depending on the audience you tap...
And it's no secret that this is a formula for millions:
But I have been selling products online for a while, and recently started reading some Copywriting books the copywriting challenge. Based on this experience, my gut is telling me that conversion rates on sales letters tends to rarely exceed 5%.
As such, I approach things like this:
Are these people just full of shit? Or do they really generate offers that regularly convert way more than 5%?
And it's no secret that this is a formula for millions:
lots of eyeballs on your message + high-value good converting message = $millions++
But I have been selling products online for a while, and recently started reading some Copywriting books the copywriting challenge. Based on this experience, my gut is telling me that conversion rates on sales letters tends to rarely exceed 5%.
- My signup forms for my free stuff convert in the 3-4% range (rate = signups/pageviews).
- My subscribers convert at a rate of about 2-3% (rate = purchases/subscriptions)
- My sales landing page is about 2-3% (rate = purchases/pageviews).
- When I ran Facebook ads for a webinar, my conversion rate on pageviews leading to webinar signups was about 2-3% (rate = signups/pageviews)
- All of the experiments in The Robert Collier letter book state conversion rates of 1-5% (rate = purchases/letters sent)
- In Perry Marshall's Ultimate Guide to Google Adwords he stated that someone reported a 5% conversion rate (rate = signups/pageviews), and they thought he was doing a FANTASTIC job.
As such, I approach things like this:
- Create goal
- Measure goal/eyeballs viewing
- Assess measurement
- <2%: Can be improved, get to 2% or better by radically changing the offer/copy
- 2%-5%: Improvement may be possible, but you may be need a while as you experiment to make small 0.1% improvements in iterations.
- >5%: I didn't know you existed...
Are these people just full of shit? Or do they really generate offers that regularly convert way more than 5%?
