Always so much chatter about which path, what way, who is right or wrong. We all want to know the answer to how we bring our dreams to life. How do we make our dreams come true, and how do we make them real?
For the Sidewalker they aren't possible. Dreams don't come true. They only exist in the mind.
For the Slowlaner they are possible. They're possible in another 40 years or so at retirement.
For the Fastlaner they are possible. They're possible in 2 to 10 years from now, they hope.
There's one thing all have in common.
Whether they believe their dreams are possible, or aren't, that belief starts in the mind.
We create these pictures. Pictures of what we believe is life, or is possible. Pictures of how shitty things are, or how awesome they are. Just lots of pictures about every little thing.
It's easy to picture the life we imagine we'd have if we had all the money we could imagine.
The fancy house, the nice cars, the perfect location, etc.
Whatever that life is, we can see it as it exists.
We can literally shut our eyes and see the snowcapped mountains through the panoramic window of our gorgeous living room. We can hear the snow crunch beneath our feet and feel the chill morning air against our cheeks and nose as we take our cat out for a walk. We can smell the aroma of expensive coffee wafting through the air, waiting to be poured into our favorite Star Wars mug. And if we try really hard, we can even taste it.
Sorry, that's a bit of my dream. Maybe yours looks and feels a little different. The point is still the same.
I don't know how many of you have taken the time to carefully craft your dream.
It doesn't really matter.
But I wonder how many of you actually believe that dream is possible? How many of you actually believe you can reach your goals and have those things you took the time to imagine? And I also wonder how many of you know they already exist?
Because life is a whole lot different than it looks at the surface.
Up here we see the gentle waves, and the occasional splash.
We see the sun reflecting off the water, and we believe that's all there is.
Just water.
But what's beneath the surface?
What's hidden under that dark wavy vale?
How do we know there are fish, and snails and crabs?
How do we know there are plants, and rocks, and sticks?
How do we know what exists beyond what our eyes can see and how do we know our dreams don't already exist too?
Maybe it's a tough pill to swallow, but I wonder how many have considered the fact that your dreams already exist because you can see them in your mind. What is real? All experience is "real". And whatever you can experience is real.
We know the world around us is real. We know our computer is real. We can see it, touch it, smell, taste, and hear it. And we say, "This computer must be real". And if this is true, is it not also true that what we can sense must be real? What we experience must be real?
But it's a little different with dreams, isn't it?
Maybe you can experience them in your mind.
But when you open your eyes they're gone, and therefore are not real.
But this begs the question...
Are your eyes really open, and how do you really know?
When I think about my goals - the places I want to go, the things I want to see and do - in all actuality these are all experiences. They're all things I want to experience in life. And when I think about this, then I know my dreams are real, because I've already experienced them in my mind.
But I want to experience them all the time, not just in my mind.
So somehow I have to bridge the gap between what is real in the mind and what is real in "reality".
So I start with a question of what is real at all?
Experience is real. What we can experience is real. My dream is real.
So if my dream is real, and if my dream exists...and if all experience is created by the mind, and it is...then the only thing which stops me from experiencing my dream in the physical reality we call real is my own limitations. The limitations I've dreamed up in my mind.
The setbacks. The challenges. The obstacles.
Would they exist for you without your mind creating them?
If so, please do explain how?
How would those things still be a problem for you if your mind did not create them?
Exactly.
Some of you have asked how I keep going in the face of failure. Some of you have experienced more failures than I. Some of you want to know how those who have failed so many times can still believe their dream is possible, and why they don't give up.
For me the answer is simple.
I keep going because my dream is real.
It's real and I know it is real, because I've experienced it.
I've seen it. I've heard it. I've touched it, tasted it, and smelled it.
And when I fail, I don't believe I've really failed.
Instead I've just marked off a path. Maybe I'll revisit it later or not.
It doesn't matter. There's more than one path to my dreams.
There's more than one way to experience freedom and I know this is
true because I've already experienced it.
So you are here.
Your dream is somewhere.
But it must not be where you are because you can't directly experience it beyond your mental picture.
So your dream is somewhere.
And between you and your dream is some make believe distance.
And all the make believe obstacles your mind has created to block you from your dream.
And if any of this is true, then isn't it also true that you can destroy those obstacles?
Isn't it true that you can close that distance?
Isn't it true that there really is nothing that can ever stop you from achieving your dream because your dream is made by you, and you control your mind, do you not?
So as long as you keep pursuing it, as long as it exists in your mind, as long as you can experience it...
Your dream is already real.
You just need to acknowledge it.
Imagine how you'll reach it.
Then go find it.
Just do it.
