What is your opinion of product review websites?

I have some experience with a product review website, but was curious as to what everyone on the forum thought of this business model. I know they violate the commandment of control because the revenue basically comes from advertising or affiliate sales. Does anyone on here run a review website? I'm just asking because I'm considering this as a business model.

P.S. I'm not referring to a cheapo blog that I write that adds no value to what's already out there. I'm talking about a site that features authentic (user generated) reviews. Something along the lines of Yelp, but specifically for a certain niche. What are your thoughts on this as a fastlane model?
