I have been entering into the craigslist game and this question came into my head.

What factors make the negotiation process easier and more profitable?

So far I believe it comes down to:

1. Desperation: The seller needs to sell the product more than the buyer needs to buy it. Examples: Seller needs money, seller is moving, seller is tired of looking at the product and just wants it out of his house.

2. Knowledge: The seller wants to sell the item but does not know what it is worth. Examples: Selling antiques, selling older video games and consoles (Ryandrake's N64 monopoly comes to mind), general lack of knowledge.

From these two I points, you can decide what market to enter and what buyers would be a better use of your negotiating time and the highest for your profit margin.
