When it comes to acing interviews I've got it down to an art. Can't remember the last time I was rejected, and from experience dressing appropriately plays an important role. Now stepping into uncharted waters, I've only pitched physical products to businesses a couple of times and on a very small scale (in person).
So my question is what kind of clothing should be worn when meeting business owners/executives and does context matter here?
For instance on the T.V. show Shark Tank entrepreneurs show up dressed in whatever they normally wear to promote their business. If it's a suit, then it's a suit. If it's shorts and a t-shirt then so be it. This of course is reality television... But do the same rules apply between businesses both large and small?
Say I want to get a toy on the shelves of U.S. Toy or Toys-R-Us or even just the local toy store down the street, will a suit & tie increase my rapport or should I show up to the meeting in nice clothes that are part of the overall look and feel of the company?
In summary, is dress really that important or do others not really care as long as you offer value, know your numbers, and can effectively sell/implement it.
