Hello, it's me monfi, do you remember me?

It's been a long time. I've been busy building my next venture which is why I wasn't more present. Launching soon, but before it does, I need a job for a wealth of reasons I won't explain here.

The good news is that I found two, and I don't know which one to choose, which is why I am kindly asking for your input.

Job 1: customer support, 9h - 17h, 4 days a week, 1943 euros per month + transport cost. Plus is that it's unlikely to tire me because it's four days a week and you don't have to do much, so I can focus on launching my side hustle. Con is that customer support may drive me nuts after three months, who knows.

Job 2: marketing. "No 9h - 17h mentality please", 5 days a week, 2300 euros net per month. Plus is that it's more interesting. Cons is that it's likely to exhaust me because it's 5 days a week and I'll be the only marketing person in the company.

I don't know what to choose. Please advise.

Thank you.

I'm going to vote for the customer service position.

Yeah it doesn't pay as much. But it's 4 days a week that don't tire you, plus they give you transport cost.

Job 2 sounds like a walking red flag with the "No 9h - 17h mentality please" - so that likely means that you're going to be working early mornings, late nights, and weekends, and you're going to have all the demands on you because you're the only marketing person, so all the success and failure of the company's campaigns is going to ride solely on your shoulders. Believe me, a company that's upfront about asking new hires to abandon a "9h - 17h mentality" is telling you upfront that they're going to squeeze every drop out of you that they possibly can and then toss you aside when you're burned out and hire another person to repeat the process all over again. "Monfi, you haven't hit your Key Performance Indicators with this campaign, so we expect you to make it right by putting in double the effort." Etc. etc.

Ask me how I know. :smuggy:

Also - the customer service position might be more enjoyable than you think. My personal experience matches this. You and I are both writers. I heard about a customer service position in 2020 and I was initially like, "YUCK." But I needed a part time job at the time and I took it, and it ended up being SO much fun, and easy, and enjoyable, and I never had any angst about going to work. Obviously that's a sample size of 1, so use your own judgment and put whatever weight onto this comment that you think is warranted. The nice thing about it was that it didn't exhaust the "writing" part of my brain so I still had that available to use for "my stuff" that I cared about.

All that to say - Job 2 for 2300 euros vs Job 1 for 1943 euros is a difference of 357 Euros. But you're giving up 4-5 extra days a month and you're adding toxicity to your daily environment to get those 357 euros.

Is that worth it?

I moved this to its own thread, sounds like an interesting discussion.

My first inclination is job #2, but I can't elaborate at the moment...
