I apologize in advance if this post isn't very clear. I'm having trouble articulating what I want to ask - so please, bear with me.
I have a niche website and I'm stuck deciding on which value/monetization path to take with it. Right now, I have articles and a blog dedicated to my niche, it's a target market I was a part of a few months ago (the target market is time-sensitive). I'm averaging around 130-180 unique visitors daily. I've gotten a few emails here and there with people asking me for help and I do what I can to help them.
So basically, I've been focusing on providing some sort of value, not really thinking about money too much, although it is in the back of my mind, of course.
Option 1: Lately, I've entertained the idea of starting an ecommerce store (Thanks, Biophase! ) and seeing how I could definitely do really well with that, since most of the services/businesses in this market are seriously lacking an online presence. But I'm afraid that might tie me down to one specific location, where I'd rather be location independent, eventually. And it definitely cuts down on the passivity, right?
Option 2: Another way I've been thinking about going about it is that I could keep building my directory or aggregated, centralized information about other businesses where people could get products/services related to this market. (I've started something like this, but haven't done too much with it, yet.)
THAT's what I would've wanted most when I was part of the target market. Just today, I found information I was looking for MONTHS ago, and I'm pretty damn good at researching the internet! Like I said, most of these businesses lack an online presence. Most of them don't even have websites or any marketing experience. I can see myself starting locally and being able to provide value to both the consumers and producers in the niche.
Problem with this option is.. well, how do I eventually make money? I know lead generation is an option, but I'm not really sure how that would work. (And doesn't MJ say this method will probably be obsolete in a few years anyway?)
Or should I even be worried about that yet - would it be better to just keep providing as much value as possible, then worry about money later?
Option 3: .. ? Is there another way to go about this? Or do you think it's possible to do both? Doesn't make sense to do both since I'd be trying to promote my products as well as theirs.
Anyway, if that made any sense, I'd really appreciate a point in the right direction.
