I know the rule is no politics, but I'm not talking about any political party.
There's a federal election coming up next month, and I'm being bombarded with messages of 'Exercise your voice by voting!' 'Vote, or lose your right to freedom of speech' 'If you don't vote, you don't care about your county'
I could understand why wealthy people, or people with special interests (lobby groups, associations, etc) would back certain candidates/parties over others, but I can't justify why I should bother at this stage in my life, because quite frankly my life is largely unaffected regardless of whether the liberals, conservatives, NDPs, Greens, or Bloc win.
The only time my life would take a drastic turn, would be if the communist party, the marijuana party, or the neo rhino party (they run on a platform of free orgasms for all, and are governed by a rhinocerous) were to win. But combined, their total votes are so small that they are statistically irrelevant and pose no threat.
Also, most people who do vote (at least from the people in my age group), have absolutely no clue how the actual political process works, nor do they understand the particular party's platform that they are voting for.
It's not that I'm apathetic, far from it, I would die fighting for my country if we were ever invaded, but to spend multiple days to go out of my way to PROPERLY research all of their party platforms, in order to make 1 vote, the outcome of which doesn't affect me in the slightest, seems quite ludicrous.
