Disclaimer: This thread is not meant for everyone. I have a certain type of person in mind.
When most people think of entrepreneurs (including myself), we think of someone who is self reliant. Someone who took the time and energy to build something out of their own volition. Someone who did it "all by themselves," that didn't need no help from nobody.
It's a shame that we think this way because that's so far from the truth.
A great example of someone that we all think of as exclusively self reliant is Bill Gates. Did you know that Bill Gates had a business partner? Did you know that he didn't build Microsoft all by himself?
Not many people know the name of the cofounder of Microsoft (I found out his name is Paul Allen).
Bill Gates did not build a multi-billion dollar company all by himself. He had many people assisting him along the way.
Why Exclusive Self Reliance Will Be Your Downfall
Success doesn't happen in a vacuum. It just doesn't. Success stems from people learning from other people.
Everything that you have and everything that you are has ties to something that has happened to you or that comes from someone else. There is nothing that you have that doesn't stem from the work or function of another person.
The very language you speak is a good example of this.
Life is Like Golf
Golf in it's essence is a solitary sport. Life is a solitary sport. You play the game alone. You live alone. You die alone.
But most people, when they choose to play golf, choose to play with other people. Because that's how they receive the most fulfillment from the game. Entrepreneurship is also like golf. If you operate in a vacuum, not only will you miss out on the best aspects of the game, you miss out on many things like:
You are most blind to the market when all of the ideas that you come up with are only bounced around in your own head.
You are not the market. You are not the one buying the product. You are the person with the most bias towards what you are doing (in a bad way). And because of this bias, if you are left alone, you will fail.
Transform the Way You See Entrepreneurship
When you think about entrepreneurship, you shouldn't think about singularity. I know that schools have F*cked you up (me too) into making you think that you operate in a vacuum.
You don't. Your grade and your report card don't come from an all seeing instructor. It comes from other people. One of the biggest strengths that you can have as an entrepreneur is the ability to reach out to others for help.
Don't Be Afraid to Reach Out for Validation and Help
P.S. I'm Sure you've heard this before. If you have, it bears repeating:
Research shows that loneliness on a long-term basis can be worse for your health than obesity in terms of increasing the potentially lethal health risks that lead to premature death.
