When I released two singles in the last quarter of 2024, a familiar struggle resurfaced - marketing with zero budget.
The first few days post-release, I kept refreshing my streaming numbers, hoping for that magical growth. You know that feeling when you believe your art deserves more eyes (or in this case, ears) but you're not quite sure how to get there?
I had set an ambitious target - one million streams by December 31st. Coming back from a long sabbatical.
But here's where it gets interesting.
I'm currently reading 'The Millionaire Fastlane ' and something struck me about the producer vs consumer mindset. See, in music, we're often taught to think like consumers - dropping singles, hoping for virality, praying for playlist placements.
Looking at my streaming numbers today, I realize I might be wearing my producer cap backward. I'm releasing music but thinking like a consumer about its distribution.
And so even though I don't have a marketing budget, I wonder what guerrilla strategies I could deploy from the Fastlane principles to get my music in front of more ears.
But first, I need your help. Take a listen here:
Never Before
I Miss You by Bem Abu
Are these songs good enough? What Fastlane principles would you apply if you were in my shoes?
Let's figure this out together.
