When I was younger, let's say 14 or 15, I made the goal to have made my first million by the time I was 25.
Well, I've just turned 25 and I'm over $100,000 behind.
Not because I bought a house, or a fancy car, or even student loans. But because I took action from a young age to work toward that goal the best way I knew how. I've started businesses and failed.
My first business was started a couple of months out of high school. I didn't have knowledge or skills necessary, but I had the desire and drive. I worked at it and learned from mistakes.
I read books and talked to people in different industries, all with my goal in mind. I began realizing that what I had was a job and looked for other opportunities. A couple more ideas, businesses and loans later I failed some more.
I'm not a failure. I've learned from my experiences. I could have gone to college like everyone told me to. I could have gotten a decent job, like everyone else. But to me that would have been the true failure.
It's not the goal that matters. It's the experiences and process to obtain the goal. If I knew then, what I know now I probably would have made some decisions differently. But I still would have done it all over.
Each lesson learned has made me who I am today. Each failure has brought me closer to having the tools and skills necessary to reach my goals.
I may have missed the mark on that goal. But now I'm prepared to tackle the next bigger goal. $10 million by thirty.
Fail fast, learn quick, move on.
