Okay guys, First of all.

I feel like complete crap
but I ain't giving up. EVER.

Now... to the meet and potatoes of this post.

I'm determined to become a well-paid freelance copywriter.
Why?

Copywriting is an extremely valuable skill, and I want to use what I earn
to finance my own start up, and have it as something to fall back on.

I have been taking action for the past 3-4 months, writing out ads by hand for
atleast an hour a day and have read the popular books on the subject and gotten "hip"
with it.

Moving on.

I did a mock email for a known freelance writer and he said I have enough chops and that
I shouldn't have a problem writing for clients The problem is....

That I haven't been able to get clents yet, I have cold emailed people with decent looking
products but crappy copy on clickbank, and have booked some networking events and seminars
to attend.

Anyone had any experiences that I could learn from?

How can client find you?
Can they see your work somewhere?
Do you got a website up and running, what shows examples of your work.
How are you different than others?
Have you made it easy to order from you?
Have you collected social proof - good testimonials from clients?
Do you know any local company/friend who might need copywriting? :D

All I can say for now is to expand your reach, build portfolio and relationships. I am currently making websites, getting my skills up and answering these questions have helped me get more clients. I am sure there are more and better ways. :)

1. Find clients that have horrible copy.
2. Write copy for them for FREE.
3. They love your work and provide an awesome reference.
4. Find paying clients.
for something like copy that you can churn out pretty quickly, this is a great way to go...

also, measure the change in sales FOR them at first! then wrap up your service as marketer instead of copywriter and you can charge 10-20k per gig at LEAST if your copy can reliable produce more than that

you will find it usually pays to niche down HARD first so that you become an expert in one field. stick to fields with high value (realtors, medical device companys, software companies pulling 100k+/ month, etc.).

for example... medical device companies specializing in orthopedic implant in the USA through direct mail

Realtors selling luxury waterfront properties via newsletters

software companies selling software on online sales pages

...
find people in that nicheby calling 100 people in each niche of interest and ask them for their expert opinion on what you're trying to do, do the work, measure results, get referral
...
