Just dived deeper that United Health claim denial rate is over 30 percent for health insurance. That’s pretty insane.

Anecdotally based on experience this figure is around 5-10 percent, largely due to non-disclosure of pre-existing medical condition.

Yeah, they also have the highest of all health insurances in the US as far as I‘ve seen. But to be fair, the whole system itself is so F*cking flawed. Yesterday I saw a post from an Australian, where someone was transported via a freaking plane after an accident, and the person wrote that the person who had the accident doesn‘t have to pay a cent for this. And this is true of Germany as well. Everyone has a health insurance and you don‘t have to pay a single cent for getting transported via helicopter (we don‘t have many doctor’s planes here lol). So yeah, I can understand the outrage from people describing how their loved ones died because a F*cking company denied a claim, even despite them paying their insurance. In a first world country you should not have to die because you couldn’t pay an operation or medicine.

It's true for every civilized country except the US lol

Stop trying to be spectacular. Start being consistent.

Your reputation isn't built on your best day. It's built on your worst. Warren Buffett's fortune was built on avoiding losses. Tom Brady became the GOAT not because of his highlight-reel throws, but because he rarely made a bad play.

Anyone can occasionally go to the gym, eat a healthy meal, and have a productive day. Doing it once in a while is common and doesn't mean much.

Moments don't make legends. Consistency does. And the hardest consistency isn't in doing brilliant things but avoiding stupid ones. Every mistake puts you in hard mode, forcing you to make up lost ground.

Anyone can do it once. The outliers do it often.

OK comrade.

I understand your sentiment but we live in a physical world with limited resources and at some point, someone decides if a treatment is worth doing or not. When you don't have price signals it ALWAYS comes down to rationing. There are TONS of examples of 1st-world people in countries with "free health care" simply not getting care because it isn't available.

Our system has many flaws and could be a whole lot better, but it starts with realistic expectations. Everyone dies at some point, and there are limited resources so we have to decide how those resources are distributed. It's a hard problem and we aren't going to solve it with childish expectations and demands.

Don't repeat this, anyone, but I'll let you into a secret...

In the NHS in the UK, there is rationing. The government doesn't talk about it, the media don't talk about it and it's kind of not talked about by the citizens. (It's an open secret)

Recently, our GP's (Family Doctor or Primary Care Physician) threatened to take industrial action because they wanted a better pay award. One of their threats was simply that they would give all patients the treatment that they needed and refer all patients to specialists as required. Had they actually done this, the NHS would have run out of money months before the end of the financial year.

However, it still sucks being told that you can't have treatment that you need / want because there is no money to pay for it.
It probably sucks even more actually being told that you can't have healthcare when you have paid an insurance premium for years previously. I guess that people don't realise that insurance still results in socialised healthcare. Your premiums were spent treating someone else.

I think simply by researching how other countries are handling this difficult topic shows that there are solutions. Those existing and very well tested solutions prove that it is absolutely not childish to expect a first world country to make sure their people get the medical help they need, whenever they need it.

Edit to add: yes, most other systems are flawed as well, all I‘m saying is that it is done a lot better in many places, so there‘s no excuse to not at least try to make it better.

I'm no stranger to ranting and raving, and hating on corporate greed.

But how does one go from someone who just vents and tries to be the change, versus someone who kills?

How was he radicalized?

Reddit? His IVY league education?

Some of it is "organic," like you see on reddit, and he took inspiration from the unabomber. A lot of it is systemic, institutional radical leftist teaching that is pervasive in academia and media. They have been pro-political violence for a LONG time. They constantly accuse the right of inciting violence and "stochastic terrorism," yet they cheer outright terrorism (see 10/7) and label political opponents a threat to our country.

Volent rhetoric has been turned up since Obama took office, and it only increased with Trump and Covid. I think most of the country is waking up and rejecting it, but there's a whole lot of radicalized people out there cheering this on. We can expect more stuff like this.

I'll also add that some of this story doesn't quite add up. His plan and execution showed intelligence and practice, until he suddenly got real stupid. Assemble an untraceable gun, but then carry it to McDonalds? Keep using the fake ID he used before the attack? Why even run if you want to get caught? There's more to this story.

I saw this yesterday (but the screenshot of his actual post has now been removed).

Basically he was arguing that if survival of the fittest is true, then why would we just roll over and submit to our overlords instead of fighting to the death if necessary? My takeaway from his view was that this is starting to come down to our survival, so basically it's ok to fight like an animal would when its survival is at stake.
Edit: A commenter on that reddit post captured his actual quote that I was paraphrasing.
"We're animals just like everything else on this planet, except we've forgotten the law of the jungle and bend over for our overloards when any other animal would recognize the threat and fight to the death for their survival. "Violence never solved anything" is a statement uttered by cowards and predators".

If you google "Luigi goodreads" there's other articles on the topic. Looks like he had a bunch of book reviews that showed his state of mind (which are apparently all now private).

So maybe he was radicalized by his reading choices?

They do say the pen is mightier than the sword.

This does a way of radicalizing people real quick. The anger is real, especially if it might have to do with the health and comfort of one's child.

Bad things happen to good people. Imagine how many bad things happen to bad people.

Don't be a bad person. Stack the odds in your favor.

Not everything has to be a political thing. And in fact, if you look at the comment sections of many YouTubers who try to blame one political side for it, you can see them get flooded with people of BOTH political sides telling them pretty much to F*ck off with their opinion. Ironic that a violent killing that in no way is acceptable or something to be celebrated, manages to unite both political sides in their hate for corporate greed. I guess, once your own loved ones are affected, like it is the case with health insurances not paying for treatment, politics don‘t matter, as they never should‘ve this much.

But yeah, like some wrote, there‘s a lot kind of off with this case and how dumb the killer was afterwards. But maybe he wanted to be found, to be seen as some kind of hero? Idk. Like I said in another post, people can try to celebrate it like some Robin Hood type of stuff, but in the end they are celebrating the brutal and cold killing of another human being, which to me is disgusting.

I wouldn't normally post links to my stuff in the main thread.

I wanted to show you how much of a super power even just an understanding of basic Maths is.

I'm not using anything more advanced than percentages here, but being able to interpret numbers like this will put you way ahead of the competition.

Today's video:
I saw this Instagram post confirming your theory. Understanding mathematics and economics puts you at an advantage.

However, Martin noted that Mangione was plagued by debilitating back pain stemming from a misaligned vertebrae that pinched his spinal cord. The injury reportedly halted his surfing activities and strained his romantic life."

Sounds like he had an operation on his spine, and it ended his sex life. Maybe that brought out some dormant mental illness. He was winning at life before he turned in to a murderer.

Do we have a failed venture thread? Would love to read pages and pages on Failed ventures from people and why they think it didn't pan out.
There was this one:

I predict this guy is going to be declared unfit to stand trial.

Yes, Id to contribute my failed journeys in the travel, poker, cannabis, music industries, after 14 years returned back to travel with lessons learned and on a slow rise using all knowledge reaped along the way and will be keeping this one out of the failed venture thread dumpster.

My client banned for "Circumventing systems" ~15 months ago. They had basically given up on Google Ads, a massive % of their business and a few million $ in sales was switched off overnight with no notice.
I'm onboard as a web developer, but thought I would give it a crack and see if we can get it resolved. We got this though earlier today."Your Google Ads account has been reactivated". Nearly gave up on it multiple times myself.

I'm not sure what the issue was but it was one of these:
- Accidentially blocking some very specific Google Bots with Cloudflare because they were tyring to stop fraudsters testing credit cards in their checkout.
- Product info in Merchant Center being out of date & not realising this was an issue before the ban (They though it became out of date afterwards)
- Not having a proper privacy Policy In Place
- Account verification

Lot to unpack here, looks like he was raised in "privilege" from a wealthy, prominent family.

Perhaps as a child he was never told "NO."

And when his insurance company said NO, he flipped.

Yeah. This is his alleged manifesto. Supposedly there is more that is still unreleased about how his mother was denied important care by United.. but his family seems very privileged so that's a bit weird. I'm sure we will learn more soon.

Weird pointless question/thought

Does anyone read the Wall Street journal or anything like it?

Did anyone used to read it and stop?

I’m reading poor Charlie’s almanac and he talks about it like it’s actually good

And I’ve seen a few other mentions of it recently in old classic books that’s made me think maybe it’s worth reading

However I assume and after visiting their site I think rightly assumed it had just become another woke propaganda fake news site

Is there anything like it that’s actually good?

Is there an opportunity to create something?

Or was it never that good and people just didn’t have access to much other information back then?

No I don’t want to follow a bunch of twitter accounts and get my news that way, but it seems almost like it’s the only way at the moment
