Hi there, I am finally here with a progress thread.
For some weeks already I was investigating into a specific outdoor niche that seems to be promising to start as an online store. Last week I finally decidied to give it a go. The main season is quickly approaching and if I don't start now, it might be too late. I will run this business together with another business partner, we both have each a full time business that we already own. So we only have the evenings and weekends. Still we plan to have everything ready by the end of March.
Of course I already checked into the competitors and especially read their reviews. There are two specific things that I believe I can do way better and faster.
In this thread, I want to make myself first of all accountable, I plan to make weekly updates about the progress. Secondly I will let you know what decisions I made and why. This will also help me to become clear on what has to be done next. Also, I will share my learnings along the way.
The plan is to start a marketing campain parallel to the creation of the online shop. For this I plan to offer a specific discount for those who give their email adress to be notified about the opening of the online store. I plan to run ads and send those interested to a landing page where they can leave their email adress. Videos and peeks behind the process should establish a bond with the target customers, so that I can start strong (hopefully) from the day one.
So last week I started out by registering a limited (still waiting on the confirmattion), a domain name and I subscribed to shopify. I also reserved already a storage unit, that will give me enough of room to store all the stuff.
Why did I choose shopify? I simply do not want to take the time to go through all the possible options, although I am a programmer myself (php). I stick to the market leader and focus rather on products, product sourcing and marketing.
Since I want to use emails to update the lead list about the progress, I started a simple email warm-up process.

Jobs for this week:
- Create the landing page to allow users to subscribe
- Create or get someone to create as simple minimalistic log
- Get the Shopify set up with a theme, generate the pages etc.
- Write an outline of how to run the ads
