This is a continuation of my accountability series where I post weekly on what I've been up to. Here's the past post.
Progress so far
1/3 Completed. Not very happy with this, see below though.
Chemistry Revision - COMPLETED
Began revising for chemistry, but I'm not doing enough. Going to aim for at least two hours a day next week. Quantum mechanics is more fun than I thought it would be!
ChemStencil Order - BIG SURPRISE
Got smacked with the prices of quotes.
For a metal sample, that is the size of a credit card:
It costs £60-£100 to make one prototype.
My jaw dropped seeing these prices - now I get why people don't make these in metal
I'm going to research into manufacturers more & get some quotes for plastic. No way am I paying £100 for a prototype (for now, until i've got the design down).
In the upside: It costs £2.50-£4 to produce one of the widgets in a 200pcs. Very happy with that as I think I can easily sell these at more than £5 a pop & sell far more than 200 to people.
Cold Emails - DISGRUNTLED BUT DETERMINED
This has been a tough one. I aimed for 5 a day, I've averaged 2 a day.... I've had zero responses back. I have some insights why this is so low.
WHAT DO THEY WANT: Sustainable merch, something warm, stylish, good quality
WHY THEY WANT IT: To be presentable to peers, pride in showing off their community, promote their community.
Hi <Society> Team,
My name is Spenny, I’m a student at the <REDACTED> helping societies get custom hoodies, t-shirts, zipnecks & so much more.
Recently I've found how much of a pain in the arse it is to get good merchandise, let alone something that is eco-friendly, sustainable and with a simple process.
Have you considered getting custom merch for your committee, society members and/or events?
Having looked at your insta page, here’s a suggestion of something that might work really well.
<Insert custom designed merch here>
Would be more than happy to explore other garment options/designs further.
I'd love to know your ideas.
Many thanks,
Spenny
To be honest I've felt pretty bad I didnt meet these goals this week. I am not going to be hard on myself, this is part of the process. I think I need to just do the work even if I don't feel motivated to do it. I have to not let my emotions get the better of me & just do it.
Goals for next week

- Due to the personalisation of the emails, it takes me 15mins per one. I think this is because of my perfectionism really. I just need to think of something and get it out.
- Zero responses: Maybe my email is crap. Going to post the template here. I've omitted some personal details. Here's some customer insight too:

- I think as well I've been feeling a bit disgruntled about this business I'm working on. I have two other co-founders. One is far too busy with his other six businesses he is working on (not sure how well he is doing with that strategy) and the other has taken months to get an MVP square space website up. I've been nagging him for the past month and we still have nothing. This has been a problem before where people are not pulling their weight & I've been tempted to make some ultimatum. With that said this is a great opportunity to learn more about start-up & selling. I really torn on what to do.

Goals for next week
- Finish off Lex's copywriting 15 day challenge
- Aim for three cold emails a day next week (I think that this is far more doable & can get me into the habit)
- Two hours of chemistry a day.
- Research plastic versions of my Stencil & further research prices.
