Paying students to drop out of college | PRI.ORG
College is not what it used to be. Anybody can get a degree now online or other. Even major Universities are joining the band wagon. I was at the bar the other day talking with a friend about how to go about purchasing his first house when his buddy chimed in asking where I learned all of this stuff. It turns out he has an MBA in finance and had no idea what I was talking about.
This being said I think that somebody would be better off seeking a job in the field they are interested in pursuing first. If they like the industry or field they could always go off to college or graduate online while working. Either way they will be ahead because they will have relevant work experience and a focused education. I have seen a lot of people go to school for a certain field and then learn they wanted to do something completely different or they got a degree because they were passionate about it but realized that the pay just is not there. A lot of times they spend twice as long in school earning another degree.
I think college serves it purpose but as many new to the job market will find out relevant work experience is more important. Your work experience serves to differentiate you from your peers. For all of those in school now internship programs are your greatest asset use them.
