I've gone through a lot of different types of sales letters. I've paid people to write them for me. I've written some myself. They've gone out to a variety of different people. I've hit upon one that is working for me in my business that I'd like to share.

I'm hoping that you can either use it as-is, or that it will get you to think about how you can apply it to your business. Also, if you have any thoughts about how to improve it, I'd welcome that too.

Intended target: personal acquaintances (old friends, former colleagues or people that I just met one time)
Goal: to set up a meeting where we can discuss needs
Product: custom business software (typically sells for 4-5 figures)
Success rate: I've set up meetings with about 80% of the people I've sent this to.


Hi XXXX,

[Personal introduction connecting me with the recipient. Here's an example]
I enjoyed meeting you last week before your company meeting at [my church]. (I helped [my friend] get the broadcast system set up, and we met when you climbed the stairs into the control booth). Pastor ___ [he's my church's lead pastor and also this company's corporate chaplain] mentioned how good your company meeting was, so it sounds like things went really well.

I run a custom software company, and wanted to know if there might be a way we could help your company. We focus on two areas:

· Business Intelligence / report automation

· Improving operational efficiency with custom software

Let me know if you’d like to set up a quick conversation with my business development manager and me. We can pretty quickly figure out if there is a way we could make your company more productive.
