Hey fastlaners! 
I'm running a sharehouse in Japan for people who are interested in learning English in an environment similar to a foreign homestay in an English-speaking country.
We were interviewing a recent candidate and he mentioned the thought of doing a carshare for the renters (and perhaps a few more people).
People in Japan are generally super-cautious (to the point of being really inefficient drivers), very responsible, and the speed limits are so low that there are very few accidents.
Used cars in great shape are also really affordable. I recently helped my buddy buy a used Honda Fit (a solid choice for reliability/mileage/flexibility) with a perfect body,no problems and about 60K miles for around $5k.
I'm thinking if I bought a decent used car and set up a carshare for the 3 renters and a few other nearby people that I trust, I could perhaps net $200-300 a month in nearly-passive income. And if I trust people enough to let them live with me and family, I shouldn't have a problem trusting them borrowing a car.
This isn't really fastlane, but I'm hoping to grow the business of English sharehouses in the future, and this could be a convenient little salespoint that brings more customers and boosts the passive income.
As far as I know, there is nothing like Zipcar or any of those other quickly-growing carsharing systems in Japan.
