Well, after 10 months
and 40, yes, 40 books sold,
I guess I can add my first try at marketing romance novels
as a failure.
I haven't figured out a solution yet
but this is what I DID do...
... I advertised on every online romance site
... I did chats and guest blog posts on every online romance site
... I sent freebie copies to reviewers and bloggers
... Wrote a book that is reviewed well and has won awards.
The big lesson is that I didn't quite grasp
how important a publisher's walk by traffic is
(at least in the romance world).
My small publisher has none
so I got absolutely no lift there.
Also because the author portion of the selling price is so small
on print books,
if I wanted to list the print book
on Amazon or other booksellers,
I'd be listing at a loss.
Some solutions would be...
- looking for a bigger publisher
- self publishing so I can list on Amazon, etc
- writing more extreme content
(erotica, kink, etc)
- giving the novel away for free and have advertisers
