Hi.
I have a lot of downtime at work which could be better spent, so I was wondering which laptops do you recommend. The budget is up to 500$, new or used. It would be used mostly for scrolling the internet and running some simple programs.

Thanks

Get a used macbook. Best repellent for gaming.

I use a $150 laptop. Does the job for me.

Based on your needs, nearly any refurbished laptop would do, or even a newer one without a dedicated GPU. You don't need much to "surf the internet" and "run simple programs."

I have an ASUS with an i9 and a 3070 in it. It was like $2k.

I recently found one of my wife’s cast off computers. A 2015 MacBook Pro 15. I cleaned it all off and started using it. It’s probably worth $3-400.

I like the MacBook better.

Hard to put a finger on, but:

-Build quality, it’s pretty stout and it’s nice not to worry I’m going to break it if I set my briefcase down a little too hard.

-iPhone and iPad ecosystem. I mostly work from an ipad, so it’s nice when everything talks.

-Software. Because no matter how hard I try to make windows the leanest and meanest I can with new installations and minimal apps, it’s a fat bastard with weird buggy crap going on at all times.
