Why I’m Doing This
This month, I’m down to just one client, which means I’ve got the time to start reaching out to new businesses. I sent an invoice to a plumbers merchant a week ago, fingers crossed that sales goes through.
Anyway, I’ve set myself a challenge to cold call 5 businesses / day because I believe in doing a little over a long period.
How do I find these businesses? There’s a local Facebook group for businesses. Honestly, it’s mostly people spamming the page with their ads. But I figure if they’re resorting to spamming Facebook like this, they probably need more customers. I then quickly qualify them by analyzing their online presence to see if they’d benefit from my help.

While at the barber, I casually mentioned that I help businesses with online marketing. We set up a meeting to discuss how I could help her (and I got a free trim).

Spoke to the owner’s wife. She was really pleasant to talk to, but her husband is retiring soon, so she disqualified herself from the service. Nice interaction, though! - Plumber:
I opened with, "Sorry, but this is a cold call." He sounded a bit down when I said that, but when I explained that I was local and helped businesses like his get more leads, he perked up. He took my name and said he’d call me back. - Decorator:
No answer. - Dog Trainer:
Super polite conversation, but they weren’t interested. - (another) Plumbers Merchant:
Asked me to call back in a month.
