Hello, my name is Jon, and I own a concrete construction company, which I started in 2020. I’m currently 28 years old, and I’m reaching out for advice from those with more experience in business.
This is my first company, and over the past two years, we’ve generated between $1.3–$1.6 million in revenue annually, with around 10% net profit. In my opinion, that’s not a great return given the significant time and investment required—trucks, machinery, and other overhead costs.
The business has been growing steadily, and I’m no longer heavily involved in field operations. I’ve shifted my focus to sales and marketing while my right-hand man handles operations.
Here’s where I’m struggling: for the amount of effort, time, and investment this business demands, the profit doesn’t feel worth it. I’m wondering if I should aim to scale the company to a consistent $3 million in annual revenue, then let it largely run itself while I invest in other opportunities.
I don’t see myself spending the rest of my life in the contracting business, especially knowing there are industries with more scalability and less overhead.
I’d appreciate any honest advice on what you think I should do. Should I keep scaling this business or start looking elsewhere
