Conversion Rates for Online Check-Out

Does it matter if the check-out takes place on another site?

Like if I have a BUY button on my site, and instead of a smooth, fancy checkout process on MY site, a new PayPal window opens up to complete the process. FWIW, my entire site sells a single, focused service (it's not a store selling a bunch of different goods).

Those of you with experience...are conversion rates impacted? If so, how significantly?

Reason: I'm trying to save cash & not buy SSL...

Not sure who you're hosting with,
but most companies provide a free SSL with VPS if you're on one (I love liquidweb)

Also, if you're doing pop-up window for check that will impact conversion rates significantly.
Same page Paypal checkout flow shouldn't be a huge difference in CR if your value proposition is solid.

I recommend using Gumroad (www.gumroad.com), or even better is Carthook (www.carthook.com)

They have silky smooth, optimized checkouts that will boost conversions.

Carthook will even let you add up to 3 One click upsells. That is a huge boost for Average Cart Values.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! Well at this point I'm testing my value proposition, so I'll need all the help I can get lol. Never heard of Carthook, will check it out.

You can get a SSL cert for 1 year for $5.99

Here is the company i use + the 5.99 promo link
https://www.sslcertificate.com/lp/5.99-essentialssl-sale.html?gclid=CLTKkezrsNACFQimaQodJQ4K3g

I don't know if it is $5.99 every year or just the first
