I just registered about 2 minutes ago, so I guess my first thread can double as an introduction; so here's a bit about me.
My Introduction:
I just turned 17 years old yesterday and I've been working on getting that entrepreneurial mindset since I was about 16 1/2. I'll be a Senior in highschool next year and I feel like I could be doing more. I have plenty of friends ages 21-27 who drive the nice cars (Mercedes AMG, Audi R8 V10, Nissan GTR, Lamborghini Murcielago) They live in the nice houses, and have the money to buy about anything they want, yet they still have time for friends, and family just as stated in MJ's book, they have real wealth.. I'm 17 and just think I could be doing a bit better. So there's my little introduction.
First know: I just got MJs book yesterday and I'm only on page 100
My Situation:
I refuse to put myself in the situation my friends are who are my age. They all work for 7.50 an hour at some resturaunt, a grocery store, or the usual job for a 17 year old. I cant put myself in that dead-end situation. I'll never go anywhere working hours and hours for barely any pay at a job that wont lead to anything. For the last 3 months I've been working on setting up a business of my own. I'm working on a mobile detailing business where I drive to your house and professionally detail your car. Now I'm only on page 100 of this book but it's got me thinking about if this is a good idea or a bad idea.
My business will require waking up at 9 am, driving to someones house, and spending a minimum of 6 hours and a maximum of 15 hours detailing the crap out of their car.
I have a "menu" of options that you can choose how much you want done to your car, it looks a little like this.
Stage 1 - $110 (takes me 4 - 6 hours )
Stage 2 - $150 (takes me 6- 7 hours)
Stage 3 - $200 (Takes 9-10 hours)
50/hour paint correction (14-16 hours)
I did some rough calculations, and if I clean 20 cars using the Stage 1 detail, I profit about $1640 dollars (cost of materials and all that factor in).
That's 120 hours in the hot sun cleaning cars for $1.6k, sounds great to me, but cleaning multiple cars a day, working on getting a new client and advertising really is a lot of work and I dont know If I'm going to fall into the slowlane with this.
I can see the business expanding into maybe my own Car Wash or something, but for now I'm only doing it as a way for a 17 year old to make more money than a minimum wage job that will never go anywhere.
My Question
I know That's a lot and no one will want to read a huge wall of text, so if you're reading this, then thanks for sticking around so far.
Should I just say screw it and find a different business? Maybe something online? (i'm proficient in graphic design and web coding, i thought about freelance work).
I want to make sure that I start off doing this as well as I can, so I thought I'd come to you guys and see what you had to say. Maybe I'm worrying about nothing since this will be my first business experience, but I had to check it out.
