I'm pretty sure I can read through resumes and decide who is worth a phone call or not.
Please dont underestimate this. It's HARD to hire GOOD people. That's why big companies outsource it by hiring headhunter companies/recruitment companies. That's why companies pay big money for recruitment.
But, since you have to do this. Keep in mind to investigate the resume. Search for gaps. Gaps between years. If somebody went to school until 2002, and then had his first job is in 2003... What did he do that year? Easy example, but gaps like that can tell a lot about who you are hiring. Also, always look for inconsistancy. Going from IT to Sales... hmm..why? Starting at university but did not finish it, why? Always ask why. Never just accept an answer.. ask deeply.. make sure everything you wonder about a person is answered. Write down the questions you have while investigating his resume... and remember, resumes are most of the time just exagarations. Some people can sell themselves super well but are not that great, some can't sell themselves well at all but are great (maybe not so much with a sales ad, but this applies even more to jobs in accountancy where more introverted people respond). Always look at hard data but keep in mind your dealing with people...
