I must admit I don't use tools.

I speak with a client and get ideas for search terms.

I'll put them through the Keyword Planner to get some more ideas and an idea of volume.

Sometimes I'll analyse the keywords by grouping them together (there's a video somewhere in the forum).

Then I load campaigns and get live data.

With this search volume data I'll speak with the client to determine where to focus.

Then I'll check competing ads and landing pages (see thread "Stop building stuff").

Competitor ad and landing page copy, plus the client's own information will help us write a relevant and decent ad.

We work to get profitable, then move to the next few keywords.

Rinse and repeat.




Be careful of tools. If you're digging a hole in the wrong place and you being in a mechanical digger then you'll just end up with a bigger hole in the wrong place.
