Hi, I'm Johnny
I'm currently a highschool student in Toronto, Ontario I've known my whole life that I've wanted to be an entrepreneur. I found this forum about 2 weeks ago and have since read the book, it's really changed my perspective on what being a successful entrepreneur is. A month ago I would of been fine with making little as long as I was self employed but now I really want to aim higher. To put it simply when I was little I used to tell everyone I was going to be a millionaire when I got older, for some reason I stopped. Recently I've started doing it again.
I'm in my last year of highschool right now and a bit unsure of what I want to do after. I don't want to go into debt and am very afraid of being forced into the slowlane because of school debt. My current plan is to take a year off and attempt to create a business that makes enough for me to live off (is this unrealistic?), depending on my situation I will likely then go to either University or College for the experience, and to gain some better programming skills. I want to take advantage of living in such a big city by attending entrepreneurship events in the area during my year off. I attended one during the summer called "Startup weekend" (they were doing a student/education theme so highschool students were allowed to attend), not sure if you guys have heard of it before but it was incredible and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves entrepreneurship.
I've also recently entered a contest being run by Kevin O'Leary (The guy on Shark Tank and Dragons Den) If I win I would get $5,000 to use towards starting a business, I really want to win... This past year I've also created a few websites and pretty much began learning about internet marketing, my most successful site generates between $30-$50 a month using adsense. It's not much but considering my budget consisted of money I made doing freelance work on Fiverr I don't think it's that bad. My most recent success has been selling a game app that I created on Flippa, I got less than what I hoped for ($175) but I don't think I would have been able to make anything by putting it on the appstore. I also did a unpaid internship at a seo company in my city over the summer, I emailed them and asked to intern in hopes of learning more about the industry, I learned a bit but not as much as I was hoping.
Sorry for the long post, I hope to learn a lot from the people here. Also, how do I get that "I've read it" badge?
