Hicks posed a question about word count vs. page estimates (for fiction) on Amazon that led me to start this thread, and I hope all of us who have indie-published on Amazon will contribute. I've read that Amazon uses an algorithm to determine approximate page count if you're only publishing in Kindle format. If we each post our average, maybe we can determine a range so that newbies or those of us who are targeting higher page count will know what to expect. Please post genre, at least high-level if you want to keep your specific genre secret, word count according to your upload file, and approximate pages according to Amazon.
Here's mine. I write erotica and steamy romance. Word count per page varies greatly, but the overall average, i.e., summing all the words in all the books and dividing it by all the pages, is 303. If I look at individual titles, the count ranges from 291 to 398. When I target a word count to a specific page count, I have been using 315, the average I calculated before my last two books, which had more dialog than earlier ones. Now I know that my WIP, which I had targeted at 60k words, needs to have 65k to tip over the magical 200 pages that my prospective publisher wants. No problem, I'll get there.
BTW, my two non-fiction books have a much lower word count per page, 206 and 234 respectively, if anyone's interested. I think that's much less important, since non-fiction tends to have illustrations and such.
Anyone else?
